If you're reading this, the assumption is that you've already received God's offer through Jesus Christ. We can then share what is received of the blessed fullness. First, we must develop a friendship with God.
It seems God isolated Abram from all that was familiar to make a friend. The covenant initially made is the most sacred that can be between two people. People can be in covenant and not be friends, as in the case of a marriage covenant. Calling Abraham his friend after faith was quite significant.
Upon salvation, we become as close to God as we choose to be. While the faith of some believers grow in leaps and bounds, others barely seem to move in their walk of faith. It's not because God plays favorites. He meets us where we are, with something new, every day.
When we gather together, every process of worship, irrespective of denomination, has a central theme. It's an attempt to yield the heart to the all-knowing, unconditionally loving God. From kneeling to praying, bowing or partaking in the sacraments, reading the scripture, or baptizing a child. We make connections with God. That connection is the invitation to friendship, and it develops as we water it with attitudes of honesty, trust, and obedience.
God meets us where we are.
