It's not about you

First off, a happy #valentinesday2024 to all the happy couples out there. We single people send you greetings.

Although valentines Day is about individuals and lovers, following Christ is not about you.

It's about God. Who is God?

The only credible way we can understand God is through the Scriptures. It's the millennia old book that points us to God.

What the Bible (Scriptures) teaches about God, and Life is called Revelation. Revelation in the sense that its source is divine. The Bible is a divine book. This is where we will focus for today.

The revelation of Scriptures is plain enough for anybody to understand. In a bid to understand the mind of Christ, rhema (God's specific instruction for us), we have thrown out good divine information, the logos.

Looking for a rhema word (Holy Spirit revealed Scripture), while ignoring the logos (Scriptures in plain context), is like climbing a ladder to a 2nd floor window of a house, for the purpose of getting in, even though the door works fine, you have the keys on you and know that, it's not an emergency, and you live there.

Sounds crazy but that's many in the church today. We have become too spiritual for doors and prefer 2nd floor windows instead.

In understanding the Scriptures in their plain context, we can use a simple three step format:

1) What God said/spoke directly to His people.

2) His intentions and purpose contextually within that period

3) What happened: What did people do, and how did they respond?

This lent of 2024, consider Scriptures afresh, first, in their plain context.
