My boundaries

"And I will fix your boundaries from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the eastern wilderness to the Euphrates River. I will hand over to you the people now living in the land, and you will drive them out ahead of you." Exodus 23:31(NLT)

God is not going to ask you to do everything. We try to be responsible for everything, and it's where we get the picture wrong. Yes, living witnesses will spread the Gospel seemingly overnight, and everyday believers have a crucial role to play. But it's within the limits established by God.

The most important thing that boundaries do in being an effective witness is give glory to God. When we turn things into the hands of God, we effectively make room for God's providence. It's one of the most spiritual things we can ever do, living in the hands of God. Then his hands go to work in our lives. We cease from our works, and entire into his rest, that's what boundaries are all about, what God can do.

Being a witness or evangelism takes different forms. There are missions, short trips to undiscipled regions, protected or unprotected. We serve and come back to everyday life. Maybe even realize something new that we had missed, taking normal things for granted.

An adventure may not be at the disposal of all, but there's a lot to do locally where you live. There's also something I'd like to call media influence. Knowing what God wants us to do, where and how, we can get our influence on the mainstream. Like this blog. Here in America today, we now have commercials depicting the ideals of Christ. In quietness and wisdom, people can get to know through you, who the Lord is, and what he has done for them.

Another effective witness is in doing good works. Most local congregations need help. Just ask, you'll see. We never really know what kind of work God has done in us until we put it into action. You may suddenly notice you have more compassion for the homeless, whereas in the past, you could care less. That's God in you.

Finally, there's social action. The church organization is not supposed to be a political pressure group, but Christians are supposed to take an interest in politics and bring their convictions with them. The businessman, who is in Christ, will treat his employees as Jesus would, and the Christian employee would give commitment.

Boundaries give confidence, bring peace, give focus, and set an expectation for God to work with our faith.
