ISA 42:1 (NIV) “Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations.
God has just one servant. His name is Jesus Christ. That's seems simplistic, but if we don't understand this principle, we miss a key part of sound doctrine. We become easily deceived as the Bible puts it: "blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming."
Let's look at this a bit closer. Jesus himself had an audience. He was very specific about it:
Mat 15:24 (NIV) "He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”
Matt 10:5-6 (NIV) "These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel"
His mandate was not vague but very specific and clear. He was sent to Israel. Post ressuretion, he was given a new mandate. We, the Church, were to be sent into all the world. But in carrying out this mission, we don't have an original message. We all have the same message, and it's the spirit of this story that unties us.
This makes Jesus Christ, the only servant of God. He emphasized this a lot, sometimes directly, other times through images.
John 14:6 (NIV) "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
John 15:1 (NIV) “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener."
When we understand and believe this, becoming a witness becomes a walk in the park. Why? Because we are messengers, pointing to Jesus Christ, the only Servant of God. As long as we are faithful to this message, he's faithful to our service.
